Exhibition Reviews

EARLS COURT GALLERY - Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

"OUT OF THE BACK"

BODY LANGUAGE  "Humans move. Sculptures don’t. So how does a sculptor infuse a figure with movement?  One way is to get the viewer to move around the work. Revealing a part of something is the sculptors way of getting us to start walking around the piece."
See what art critic Regina Haggo reveals about my sculpture in her video review:  BODY LANGUAGE

- Regina Haggo, art historian, public speaker, curator and former professor at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand

24th ANNUAL SCULPTURE CELEBRATION  2009

CALDWELL ARTS CENTER, LENOIR, NC

"The figure has been the subject for sculptors since the beginning of human history...to interpret the figure in an artistically original way at this point in time is almost impossible. Mary-Ann has accomplished this. Her work is powerful from a distance, but the details make it quite exceptional up close."

- John Henry, American sculptor, juror - Sculpture Celebration 2009, Lenoir, NC.

Merit Award - "Bound by Round."

NW ARTIST'S LEAGUE 31ST ANNUAL COMPETITION

WILKES ART GALLERY, WILKESBORO, NC

"This sculpture pulled at my heartstrings, as soon as I saw it! A combination of a host of disciplines! Obviously drawing from a wellspring of personal experiences with obvious formative years spent in the company of gifted artisans in an environment where skills can be tirelessly honed. The understanding of the materials, the properties of the underlying structure, the workmanship and application of the surface finish, the rectilinear designs using both gentle and bold elements of shape and color has made this my obvious choice. Every bold statement, purposeful curvature and gentle prick has an essential place. This meant much to me as an architect where you can't escape the attention to detail without which concepts collapse.

"The precise and balanced articulation between elements are so well related that I can't help but be reminded of my favorite architect, the Italian master, Carlo Scarpa."

- George Kosinski, British architect/painter, juror - NW Artist's League, Wilkes Art Gallery, Wilkesboro, NC. Best in Show - "A Sense of Balance"

TYNDALL GALLERIES - CHAPEL HILL, NC

"BETWEEN THE EYE AND THE FIRE"

"There were many great exhibits in 2004, but one that stood out was the colorful take on modern art by sculptor Mary-Ann Prack at Tyndall Galleries back in February. Prack's stoneware clays are shaped and glazed intuitively, but come out very aware of Matisse, O'Keefe, Miro, and to an extent, Picasso and Kandinsky. Being able to conduct a modern art orchestration while retaining her own style is what makes Prack's work memorable."

- Doug Stuber, Visual Arts Critic, Independent Weekly, Durham, NC.

"The Best of the Year 2004" Issue, 1.5.2005, Best Solo Exhibit.

MANHATTAN ARTS INTERNATIONAL - NYC, NY

"HERSTORY 2004"

"Mary-Ann Prack's sculptures resonate pure harmony, balance and the relentless positive spirit of humankind. Simple in form yet endowed with a profound sense of ancient wisdom, they are sublime and full of wonder. Prack is an artist who reaches deep within herself to evoke universal themes. That is why I selected her work to receive an Artist Showcase award in the Manhattan Arts International "Herstory 2004" competition/exhibition."

LEEPA-RATTNER MUSEUM OF ART - TARPON SPRINGS, FL

"O' APPALACHIA: ARTISTS OF THE SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS"

"I haven't been this excited about an artist's work in a long, long time. Mary-Ann's sculpture affects me in so many different ways...and always with total exhilaration; intellectually, spiritually and emotionally. The essence of her creations is really quite magical and her mastery of the medium exquisite!"
